BE AWARE OF FREE INSPECTIONS

While a free termite inspection may initially sound appealing, there are some things to consider:

  • Ask yourself a question: Why would a company incur the cost of paying a Trained Certified Professional to get in a company vehicle to travel to your home and spend 20 to 40 minutes with you to inform you about termites in your home at NO COST to you? Companies build this cost into their pricing, NOTHING IS FREE, you will pay for it in one manner or another. Do you think you are getting an unbiased assessment?

  • Biased Recommendations: Free termite inspections are often conducted by pest control companies or exterminators who have a vested interest in selling their services. Most free inspections are conducted by a sales person working on commission to earn their income. This increases the possibility that they may exaggerate or even fabricate the presence of termites in order to secure a contract for treatment. This can lead to unnecessary and costly treatments to you.

  • Limited Scope: Free termite inspections may only cover a basic evaluation of the visible areas or accessible parts of a property. Termites can often infest hidden or hard-to-reach areas, such as within walls, floors, or crawl spaces. A limited inspection may not detect termite activity in these concealed locations, resulting in undetected infestations.

  • Lack of Expertise: Not all individuals performing free termite inspections may have the necessary expertise or qualifications to accurately identify termite activity. Incorrect identification or missed signs of infestation can lead to delayed treatment, allowing termites to cause further damage to the property.

  • Pressure for Immediate Treatment: Some companies offering free termite inspections may employ high-pressure sales tactics to convince homeowners to sign up for their termite treatment services immediately. They may claim that the infestation is severe or imminent, creating a sense of urgency to make a quick decision. This can make it difficult for you the homeowner to conduct proper research or seek second opinions.

  • Privacy and Security Concerns: Allowing individuals from a pest control company into your home for a free termite inspection poses potential privacy and security risks. Ensure that you choose a reputable and trustworthy company to minimize the chances of theft, property damage, or compromised personal information.

To avoid these concerns, it's important to approach free termite inspections with caution. Research and select a reputable pest control company with a proven track record and positive customer reviews. Consider seeking multiple opinions and quotes to ensure an accurate assessment of any termite activity.

If you elect to get one of these FREE INSPECTIONS, ask the following questions to the Inspector:
  • Could you show me your Pest Control State Certification ID?
  • How long have you been employed at this company?
  • How long have you been in the Pest Control Industry?
  • Are you a Sales Person or the Technician that will do the work?
  • Do you only get paid commission on New Sales?
  • Why are you working in this industry?
These few questions will provide insight on any motives the Inspector may have.
