Although there are many species of termites in the United States, subterranean termites are the type most likely to attack your home. Their underground colonies can contain millions of termites and they may also colonize and travel through shelter tubes above ground. You may never see evidence of them until it is too late and they have caused severe damage in your home or business. It is estimated that termites cause over $4 billion in damage each year in the U.S. alone. This damage is not covered by most homeowners’ insurance.
In the south, Formosan termites pose problems as they are especially vigorous, aggressive, and destructive. Formosan termites are a species of subterranean termites and they are more commonly found in the southern states along the coast, although over the years they have been migrating further north.
